Learn how to bustle a wedding dress.

Wedding gowns can be bustled a variety of ways. Bustles depend on the preference of the bride and also the style of the dress.

This dress had a long train that was shortened but still was quite heavy. I tried several options with the point of the bustle below the thigh area but was not pleased with the look.

Every dress is different and the bustle depends on the style and the flow. I also prefer to hide the hooks as much as possible in the lace or in this case behind the buttons.

I use these small hook and eyes for this dress. Because of the ivory color of the dress I even tried to paint them with a little ivory nail polish to make the hooks blend in. For other dresses that have more lace in which to hide the bustle you may be able to use heavier hooks like these ones

When determining how to bustle a wedding dress sometimes the underskirt can be bustled separately if the train is too heavy

On this dress the underskirt was separate from the outerskirt. To get the effect elegant effect of this bustle I bustled the underskirt separately. Rather than putting the hooks on the outside of the underskirt there are five hooks spaced out on the underside. Note that the underskirt is not bustled into one point.

Also when you are working on creating the ideal bustle for a dress make sure that the dress is still floor length after the bustle is put up.

A one point wedding dress bustle is very elegant in this style of dress. Attached with three simple hooks

Though it is hard to tell in this picture, the outderskirt has three sets of hook and eyes. The hook part I attached near the waist line and the hooks are lower down on the train. All of them are hidden behind a button. This does make it a little tricky when you are trying to hook it up because the buttons can get in the way.

Also if the bride or the bridesmaids have strapless gowns you might want to consider having some fashion tape on hand. Strapless gowns tend to be revealing when you bend over, rather than being selfconsious about this simple use this tape around the top of the gown to stick the gown to the wearer.
