When your soul is weary God shows up

there are seasons of work and family that cause us to be soul weary. The only solution is to continue to seek the face of God in our dry places.

There are seasons of dryness in all of our lives. It could be because of something that has happened, like death of a loved one or of difficult circumstances.

I have been going through such a season the past few weeks and months as we continue to work on my adopted father’s estate.

I cry the words of Psalm 63:1  “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.”

Emotionally and mentally this feels like a dry and parched land. My soul is weary.

In life, in business and in motherhood these periods of dryness come upon me without notice.

This dry, weary land is uncomfortable. I don’t like it.

The only solution is to seek His face.

A continual pressing into God, saying “I need You, I love You. I want to know You.” Nothing and no one except God Himself can fill the thirsting of our souls.

At times I wonder why He doesn’t satisfy immediately, I wonder why the seeking takes so much time.

Perhaps because He wants us to want Him.

Perhaps so that we can know that when our soul becomes satisfied with Him, it did not come about because of something we did.

In my own seeking there have been days of breakthrough – a bit of water for my soul in the unexpected places.

Like the day I opened Jesus Always by Sarah Young and read these words “Come rest with Me, Beloved. Though many tasks are calling to you, urging you to put them first, I know what you need most; to be still in My Presence.”

These were words of refreshing. The tasks of the estate, the unfinished sewing projects, the unswept floors…..these are just tasks. But Jesus calls the heart because He wants fellowship.

What tasks await you today?

Pray this prayer with me, asking God to orchestrate your day.

Father, these plans (fill in your plans) are on my agenda today, but they aren’t nearly as important as knowing You. Speak to me throughout the day. Calm my actions, show me the task that I should be doing next. If I don’t complete everything today I give it to You, and trust that Your way is best. Amen

Several years ago I wrote this poem (also available as a download if you click here)

The Seeking Heart
Seeking His face
Pressing forward
Pushing aside
The cumbersome flesh
Making my way
Into the Holy Place
My anxious heart
Longing to find Him
Seek Him
He will be found
His arms outstretched
Offering a covering
A covering of peace
Where a human heart
Can learn His love
Soaking in His glory
To seek Him
To know Him
To live close
In unbroken fellowship
