Reimagine clothing with closures that fit your taste

Sweaters, cardigans, and robes don’t always come with a closure. Maybe because it is the style to wear the garment open. But that isn’t for all of us. Especially on a cold winter day, I want to feel wrapped in my comfy fleece.

This fleece especially looks so cozy for the winter but there was not closure on it.

Because of the thickness I couldn’t do a regular buttonhole.

The machine would just get caught in the fleece and the zigzag of the machine sewn button hole wouldn’t grab the fabric enough. At first I suggested an elastic button hole, but my client was not in favor of that idea. Then I asked about a bound button hole. You don’t hear about bound button holes often, in fact it had even been a few years since I’ve done one but it ended up being the perfect solution for this fleece.

Another idea would be to make the button hole out of yarn

like in this next YouTube Video – of course with a buttonhole out of yarn it is not going to bring the cardigan together as tightly as a bound buttonhole, but definitely this is a simpler solution, that takes a little less sewing expertise.

Frogs are another alternative

I could have used a frog on this cardigan also, but I did decide to add a frog to this robe. It came with some tie straps but they didn’t offer a lot of security. I’m sure you’ve had times when the belt on your robe has slipped lose, just like my client. The frog ensures that it will stay closed securely.

Frogs come in all sizes and colors on amazon. If you do order one be sure to check the size of the frog in the product description. You will be disappointed if you order one too small for your needs.
